he RADEX program uses the iterative process to obtain a con- sistent solution for the level populations and the radiation field. Besides false convergence as described earlier, oscillations in the solution can also be an issue. In the latter case, RADEX will not converge either. Relaxation factors can be used to prevent the solution from diverging and to speed up the con- vergence of the solution. The program will apply an under-relaxation factor to stabilize the convergence of the level populations within an iteration (default 0.25).
